Downloading Patches

By now you have probably found a patch you want to use in your dream.
But how to download it? The following is from the Official Patch Archives of Furcadia.
Refer to the
Sites To Download Patches for a short list of sites where you can download Patches for use.

Most of the websites are very similar to each other with a link to download your patch.
A small screenshot of a screen you may see has been added below.

On this screen, from the Patch Archives you would click where it says HERE to download the patch.

After clicking the link to begin your download you should see a screen asking what you want to do with the file.
You can choose either of the available options however it is usually easier to Save the file directly onto your computer.

Depending on what browser and operating system your using the message may be different for you but they mean virtually the same thing.
I have included two samples below for reference.

Some browsers may ask you to choose where to save the file. Other browsers will save to a location by default.
If given the option to save to a specific location be sure to save the file to a location you know how to get to for when the download is complete.

The above is a screenshot of a screen where your asked to specify a directory for the file to be downloaded to.
In the directory above, I know it's location is
C:\My Documents\Downloads\Downloaded-Patches\

A specifically created folder for downloaded files.
During or After the file is been downloaded you will need to create a new folder for the extracted files inside the to be placed.
This folder will be used for your dream, if your using different files for a second dream then you need a separate folder.

Most people will create their folder within their Furcadia Patches folder for simple access.
Your Patches folder is located inside your Furcadia Folder Directory - where your furcadia folders are.

The Furcadia Folder can be accessed easily by going to your Start Menu and then to,
All Programs - Furcadia - Furcadia Tools - Furcadia Folder.

Once your in the furcadia folder, double click on the Patches Folder to open it.
See below for a quick screenshot.

Once inside the Patches Folder look to the Top Left of the folder.
There are a number of sections here.

Click on File to open the dropdown menu. Move your mouse down to New and select to create a Folder.
There is a small screenshot below for this menu.

Once you click to create this new Folder you will be given an option to name the new folder.
Call this folder whatever you like. The name does not matter.
Most people will name this folder the same name as your dream as this makes it easier to remember which files are for what dream.

Once your download has finished if you are given an option to open the file right away then do so.
If you have to open the file yourself then go to the directory where you downloaded the file to and open it there.

Extracting Files

Extracting the files from this point depends on what you have to extract these files.

To be taken directly to either of these sections click their links below.

Default Extractor        WinZip/WinAce

Default Extractor

If you see a default compressed file, - a folder with a zip down the side, then you would most likely be using this method to extract your files.

Right click on the file you downloaded and click "Extract All..."

A dialog box will appear asking where you want to extract these files to.
If you have opened the file from the Download Screen then you may have to go to
File - Extract To... instead.
This depends on what version of Windows your using. If you cannot find this option with the file open then close the file
And locate it in the directory it was downloaded to and use the method explained above and continued below.

When given the option of where to extract these files to select the folder you created earlier.
If for example your created folder was located at C:\Program Files\Furcadia\Patches\MyItems

Then choose this folder to extract the files too. Click Next to begin the extraction.

Typically the files are usually already named correctly, if they are not you may have to go to the extraction location and rename the files yourself.

Remember that for items they should be called Iteme.fsh
For floors the file should be called floore.fsh
Refer to the File Names List for a full list of the file-names used on Furcadia.

WinZip / WinAce Extracting

WinZip and WinAce both have their own unique images to show they are of that file type.
It is worth noting that WinAce can open almost all compressed files including ZIP files while WinZip opens only a small few.

Both of these can be downloaded for free from their appropriate websites linked to below.
I don't currently have an image for WinRar however you can tell it's files through a series of stacked books.

WinZip Website     WinAce Website     WinRar Website

WinRar is a slightly more advanced Archiver but works generally the same way as WinAce.
Refer to WinAce's instructions if using WinRar.

[WinAce] - Right click on the file and select "Extract To..."

[WinZip] - Right click on the file, and click once on "WinZip" - then select "Extract To..."

Applying Your Patch for Use in a Dream

Now comes the fun part - Applying your new patch to your dream.
This can be very easy or very complicated, depending on how you look at things.

The first thing we want to do is open up your DreamEditor Program.
There are two main ways to do this;

Method One
       Method Two

Method One

This method is done by use of your Start Menu.

Start Menu -> All Programs -> Furcadia -> Furcadia Tools -> Click One on Dream Editor
See the screenshot below for a visual reference.

Next Step

Method Two

This Method is done by your Furcadia Client.

Open furcadia using any of your characters and click on the C Tab found in the lower left corner of your screen.
Here you see multiple buttons which relate in some way to dreams and your character.

Click the button entitled
Dream Editor

On The Dream Editor...

Now you have your Dream Editor screen Open - but now what?

Look to the top of the screen. You will see several options but the one we want is labelled
Patches
Click on this menu to open the dropdown and then select Dream Settings.

Alternatively you can press Ctrl+L on your keyboard for a shortcut.

Whether you selected this open through the drop down menu or through the shortcut keys a Window like the one shown below will appear.

Can you see that the window is split into
Three different sections?
You want the section entitled
Patches.

This section has three different options. The default is that you do not want to use any additional files.
You should select the second open by clicking the circle. This tells the DreamEditor to use your patches within the dream
And to upload these files when you upload your dream onto Furcadia.

However we need to tell the DreamEditor which patches to use.
In the box next to the section option enter the directory where your patches were extracted to.

If you cannot remember exactly where that folder is, you can click the button next to the box,
Browse.
This button opens up a small text screen at your Furcadia Directory.

Assuming this is where your patches are located double click
[ Patches ] to open that directory.
Click once on the name of your folder and then click
OK to select this folder for use with the dream- and it's patches within.

If you did not place the folder within your Furcadia Patches Directory then you can move out of the furcadia directory
By double clicking the
[ .. ] button to see more folders in the parenting folder.

To further explain this, if you were viewing
C:\Furcadia\Patches and clicked the double dots, [ .. ]
You would be taken out to view all folders within
C:\Furcadia instead.

Depending on which patch you used, you can now find items from an iteme.fsh file at shapes 2400 onwards,
And Floors from a floore.fsh file at Floor 500 onwards.

When selecting items, you will have to press space
four times to view your added shapes.
When selecting floors, you will see some of your added floors straight away but need to press it
once to see the rest of them.

The last step is to design and upload your dream and enjoy your new patches!

Good Luck!
